GOSWINUS NICKEL OF THE SOCIETY OF JESUS Goswin Nickel (1582 to 1664) was the tenth Superior General of the Society of Jesus. He oversaw the order during a time when Jesuit scientists were at the forefront of European research.

SUPERIOR GENERAL.

Since the Work, which is titled Hydraulic-Pneumatic Mechanics, composed by Father Gaspar Schott, a Priest of our Society, has been reviewed by several Religious members of the same Society, and they have approved that it may be published; we grant the permission that it be sent to the press, if it so seems fit to those whom it concerns. In witness of this matter, we give these letters signed by our hand and secured by our seal at Rome, January 23, 1655.
