A woodcut portrait depicts Nicolo Tartaglia. He appears as a middle-aged man with a full, dark beard and mustache, dressed in a scholar's cap and heavy, draped robes. His right hand rests upon a stone-like base. To his left and right are two identical oval library stamps belonging to the Celestine Monastery of Monte Morcino in Perugia, which feature a cross and botanical sprigs. On the base in front of the figure, a small book or plaque is inscribed with the name "NICOLO TARTALEA" in reversed script.
