An elaborate architectural title border is shown. At the top, a central oval vignette displays a landscape featuring a windmill and a fountain. Flanking the top are various bundles of mechanical tools and scientific instruments. On the left stands a statue of the Greek mathematician Archimedes, holding a compass and a book; on the right stands the Roman architect Vitruvius, holding a long staff and a tablet with geometric diagrams. At the bottom, a decorative cartouche features a technical cross-section of mill machinery, showing gears and hoppers. The engraver's signature "M Merian fec." (made by M. Merian) is visible at the bottom left.
