to be published at my own expense. To this end, I entreated that most ingenious man, GEORG ANDREAS BÖCKLER, Architect of the Free City of Frankfurt am Main of the Holy Roman Empire, to elaborate a description to be joined with the images.
As I was about to bring this offspring to light, I decided, as if by an extemporaneous counsel, to entreat YOUR SERENE CLEMENCY to be its Patron and judge. I also dared to inscribe your august Name upon the frontispiece the decorative title page or opening illustration of a book of the work.
Therefore, I now in fact offer and dedicate everything here to YOUR SERENE CLEMENCY with the humblest devotion of mind. I submissively commend it to your Most Clement Patronage. I rely on the certain hope that YOUR SERENE CLEMENCY will kindly and graciously receive these humblest efforts of mine as witnesses of my submissively owed gratitude. Your singular favor toward my humble self already shines forth from the shared depiction of two fountains which were most ingeniously erected by YOU at your residence. These have now been most diligently engraved in copper, as far as was possible, and inserted into this very work, as can be seen on pages 85 and 86.
With this same hope I now conclude, commending YOUR SERENE CLEMENCY to the most powerful gaze of GOD, and myself to your Grace with the humblest subjection of mind.
