Cosmography

Diagram of the preceding division of the Spheres.

A geocentric cosmological diagram consisting of concentric circles representing the celestial spheres. At the center is a circular illustration of the Earth with landscape features (mountains, water, and a city). Surrounding the Earth are the spheres of the seven planets, followed by the firmament of fixed stars, the crystalline heaven, and the primum mobile. The outermost ring contains the Empyrean.

The spheres are labeled from the center outward as follows:
1. OF THE MOON
2. OF MERCURY
3. OF VENUS
4. OF THE SUN
5. OF MARS
6. OF JUPITER
7. OF SATURN
8. Eighth [sphere], the Firmament (decorated with stars and zodiac symbols)
9. Ninth [sphere], the Crystalline Heaven
10. Tenth [sphere], the First Mover

The outermost border is inscribed with the text: "THE EMPYREAN HEAVEN, THE DWELLING PLACE OF GOD AND OF ALL THE ELECT." Zodiac symbols (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces) are distributed within the eighth sphere.
