...tors, in the Fasti Chronological lists or calendars of events, particularly those naming the annual consuls who served as the primary means of dating years in Rome., and the Chronicle of Cassiodorus. Under these consuls, Constantine the Great died, according to the Fasti and the Deacon Likely Paul the Deacon, an 8th-century historian., in the place cited. Therefore, I believe Cassiodorus is in error, as he records this as happening two years later, under the consuls Constantius and Constans. But, since the opportunity arises, I will proceed to correct another passage in those Capitoline Fasti The Fasti Capitolini, an important list of Roman magistrates found in the Roman Forum. which has been corrupted by the similarity of names. Twenty-two years after the consuls Felicianus and Titianus, we read Titus Fabius Titianus and Neratius Cerealis. It is no different in the Chronicle of Cassiodorus: Titianus and Cerealis. But in both places, Datianus should be written instead of Titianus. For the Sicilian Fasti Also known as the Chronicon Paschale, a 7th-century Byzantine universal chronicle. correctly state: Datianus and Cerealis original: "Δατιανὸς καὶ Κερεάλις" (Datianos kai Cerealis). Ammianus [Marcellinus] in Book 17 says: Under the consuls Datianus and Cerealis, while all affairs throughout the Gauls were being arranged with more cautious care, etc. And in both law codes Referring to the Theodosian and Justinian Codes., imperial rescripts are found which explicitly name Datianus alongside Cerealis.
In the Preface, page * 3, line 5, for "reddemur" read "redderemur." This corrects a printing error in the Latin text, changing "we shall be returned" to the more grammatically appropriate "we might be returned."
