The title refers to the Opus Tertium, or Third Work. This was one of three major treatises Roger Bacon sent to Pope Clement IV around 1267 to propose a reform of medieval education and science.
Roger Bacon was a 13th century English Franciscan friar. He is celebrated for his early advocacy of the scientific method and the use of experimentation to understand the natural world.
This 1912 edition was significant because it contained portions of Bacon's writing that had remained hidden in manuscript form for centuries.
Andrew George Little was a prominent historian of the Franciscan order. He served as the chairman of the British Society of Franciscan Studies.
