found in our grammar on pages 101 to 104, are nothing but a reproduction of pages 454 to 459 of the Compendium on the Study of Philosophy original: "Compendium Studii Philosophiae". This is supported by comparisons to the Third Work original: "Opus Tertium", page 237, and the Major Work original: "Opus Majus", volume iii, page 91 in the Bridges edition. Additionally, the lengthy discussion about such words as void original: "κενόν", stranger original: "ξένον", new original: "καινόν", and common original: "κοινόν", found on pages 89 to 92, are only a repetition of what is said in the Compendium on pages 457 to 459. This also appears in the Major Work on page 88.
But apart from such wholesale embodiment of portions occurring elsewhere, the identity of authorship is conspicuous all along. It is evident in the mode of treatment, in the phraseology, and in the illustrative examples and quotations from other authors. It is further seen in the allusions to Hebrew and French, in the grammatical principles on which the opinions of the author are based, and in the peculiar views on philology in general. Finally, it is clear in the manner in which some authors are praised and others refuted. There is a striking resemblance on all these points between Bacon's other works and the present treatise.
The examples employed by Bacon to illustrate his views are the same here and in his other works. To give a few instances:
