And as for that small treatise of the Alkahest A legendary universal solvent in alchemy., it was bestowed upon and sent to me by a generous stranger, who was pleased to take notice of my care in preserving the Porta Prima Latin: "First Gate," a reference to an alchemical text. at the end of Ripley Reviv’d, as likewise of that general invitation in the aforementioned book on page 390. If any other gentlemen shall be pleased to imitate this, I hope in time we shall obtain all the lost pieces of the works of that famous modern English adept, which are so much thirsted after.
