...the remainder that of Sillig Julius Sillig, a German classical scholar who published a significant edition of Pliny. (Gotha, 1851). In a few instances, where, for reasons given, it has been deemed advisable to depart from the two Books, and portions of others, are the work of the late Dr. Bostock, who contemplated editing the entire work; but, unfortunately for science, he was not permitted to carry this to execution.
Upwards of a hundred pages had been printed when the present Translator entered on his task. He had not the advantage of Dr. Bostock’s supervision through the press, and some trifling oversights occurred. These are, for the most part, corrected here.
