PREFATORY NOTE TO THEODORET

BY THE TRANSLATOR.

The following translations have been made from the edition published at Cologne, 1618, which corresponds in the main with that of M. Migne in his Patrologia Graeca. The translator has, however, since the first portions went to press, had the opportunity of consulting the very valuable edition of Schulze and Noesselt (Halle, 1769-74), which contains much matter of the highest importance to the student of the text of the History. Some notes from this edition have been added to the later portions of the work. References have also been given to the edition of Theodoret by Gaisford, Oxford, 1854.
