These supplementary works original: Nebenarbeiten. This refers to the "Parerga" (appendices) and "Paralipomena" (omissions) of the title—writings produced alongside his main work., sent out following my more important, systematic works, consist partly of several treatises on specific, very diverse themes, and partly of isolated thoughts on even more manifold subjects—all brought together here because, mostly due to their subject matter, they could find no place in those systematic works Schopenhauer is referring to his definitive philosophical system, primarily The World as Will and Representation., though some only because they arrived too late to occupy their proper place therein.

In this regard, I have primarily had readers in mind who are familiar with my coherent and more substantial works; such readers may even find many a desired clarification here. On the whole, however, the content of these volumes—with the exception of a few passages—will also be understandable and enjoyable to those who do not bring such an acquaintance with them. Nevertheless, those familiar with my philosophy Philosophy: Schopenhauer's specific system of transcendental idealism, which views the world as "Will" and our perception of it as "Representation." will always
