...they say? to the end?
And he said to him, “Take heed,
do not fear, and let your heart [not] be [faint]
...the smoking firebrands
in the midst of Israel
...the mouth of Damascus, not
five years, shall be shattered
if you will not believe
the LORD to Ahaz
[my] God. Therefore, [the Lord] shall give
and she shall bear a son and shall call [his name]
curds and honey he shall eat
knowing to refuse the evil
the land shall be forsaken, which
this, from before [the two] kings”
your iniquity, and your sins shall be atoned for. And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom
shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here I am! Send me.” And he said, “Go and say
to this people: ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not know.’ Make fat
the heart of this people, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears, and their heart understand, and they return and be healed.” And I said, “How long,
O Lord?” And he said, “Until cities lie waste without inhabitant, and houses
without man, and the land be utterly desolate, and the LORD removes the man
far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land. And though a tenth remain in it, it will again
be burned, like a terebinth or an oak whose stump remains when it is felled.” The holy seed is
its stump.
And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin
the king of Aram and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to war against it,
but could not wage war against it. And it was told to the house of David, saying, “Aram has rested upon
Ephraim.” And his heart and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.
And the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out now to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-jashub
your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway to the Fuller's Field.
And say to him, ‘Take heed and be quiet; do not fear, and let your heart not be faint because of these two tails
of smoking firebrands, because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and the son of Remaliah;
because Aram, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah have plotted evil against you, saying, “Let us go up
against Judah and terrorize it, and let us breach it for ourselves, and set up a king in the midst of it,
the son of Tabeel.”’ Thus says the Lord GOD: ‘It shall not stand, nor shall it come to pass.’
For the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin. And within sixty
and five years, Ephraim shall be shattered from being a people. And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of
Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.”
And the LORD spoke again to Ahaz, saying, “Ask for yourself a sign from the LORD your God;
let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not
test the LORD.” And he said, “Hear now, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary
men, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself shall give you
a sign: Behold, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Curds”
Then flew one
of the seraphim to me,
having in his hand a burning coal
which he had taken with tongs
from off the altar.
And he touched my mouth
and said, “Behold,
this has touched
your lips, and taken away
your iniquity and your sin.”
And I heard the voice of the Lord
[saying], “Whom
shall I send, and who will go?”
“Send me.” And he said,
“This [people], keep on hearing
but do not know.” Make fat
and his ears heavy
with his eyes and with his ears
and be healed.” And I said,
“O Lord?” And he said, “Until”
