Rage, O peoples, and be shattered; and give ear,
and it shall sweep on and pass on, it shall reach to the neck; and the stretching out of its wings shall fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.
And all you distant parts of the earth, gird yourselves and be shattered; gird yourselves and be shattered.
Take counsel together, but it shall be brought to nothing; speak a word, but it shall not stand, for God is with us.
For thus the LORD spoke to me with a strong hand and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,
Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear their dread, nor
be in awe. The LORD of hosts, him you shall honor as holy; and he shall be your fear, and he shall be your awe.
And he shall become a sanctuary and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense to the two houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare

to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many shall stumble thereon, and they shall fall and be broken, and be snared and be captured.
Bind up the testimony, seal the teaching among my disciples. And I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding his face from the house of
Jacob, and I will hope in him. Behold, I and the children whom the LORD has given me are for signs the and for wonders
in Israel from the LORD of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion. And when they say to you,
Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter—should not a people inquire of their God?
On behalf of the living, [should they inquire] of the dead for the teaching and the testimony? If they will not speak according to this word, for which
there is no dawn, then they shall pass through it, distressed and hungry; and it shall be that when they are hungry, they shall be enraged and curse by their king and by their God,
and turn upward; and they shall look to the earth, and behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish; and into thick darkness they shall be thrust.
For there will be no gloom for her who is in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.
You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with the joy at the harvest, as
men rejoice when they divide the spoil. For the yoke of his burden and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor,
you have broken as on the day of Midian. For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle and the garment rolled in blood shall be
for burning as fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it
and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
The Lord sent a word to Jacob, and it fell on Israel, and all the people shall know, Ephraim
and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in pride and in greatness of heart,
The bricks have fallen, but we will build with dressed stone; the sycamores have been cut down, but we will put cedars in their place.
And the LORD raised up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and stirred up his enemies,
the Arameans from the east and the Philistines from the west; and they devoured Israel with every mouth.
For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.
