1. and chirping; and I gathered all the earth, and as one gathers abandoned eggs, so I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved a wing, or opened the mouth.
2. I have done it; and I have removed the borders of the peoples, and I have plundered their treasures; and I brought down those who sit inhabitants?
3. Therefore the Lord GOD of hosts shall send among his fat ones leanness, and under his glory a burning shall be kindled like the burning of fire.
4. And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it shall burn and consume briers and thorns in one day.
5. And the glory of his forest and his fruitful field, both soul and body, it shall consume; and it shall be as when a sick man wastes away. And the remnant of the trees of his forest shall be few,
6. and a child may write them.
7. And it shall come to pass in that day, the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again rely upon him who struck them;
8. but shall rely upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. A remnant shall return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. For though
9. your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall return in it; a destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness. For a full end and a determination
10. the Lord GOD of hosts shall make in the midst of all the earth.
11. Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD of hosts: O My people who dwell in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian; he shall strike you with a rod, and his staff
12. he shall lift up against you, in the way of Egypt. For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall come to an end, and My anger in their destruction. And shall stir up against him
13. the LORD of hosts a scourge, as at the striking of Midian at the rock of Oreb; and his staff shall be upon the sea, and He shall lift it up in the way of Egypt.
14. And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck; and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the oil.
15. He has come to Aiath, he has passed to Migron; at Michmash he shall lay up his baggage. They have gone over the pass; at Geba they have taken up their lodging; Ramah is afraid;
16. Gibeah of Saul is fled. Cry aloud with your voice, O daughter of Gallim; listen, O Laishah; O you poor Anathoth. Madmenah is a fugitive;
17. the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee. As yet shall he remain at Nob that day; he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
18. Behold, the Lord GOD of hosts shall lop the bough with terror; and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the lofty shall be brought low.
19. And He shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.
20. And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots; and the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
21. the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; and shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD; and not after the sight of his eyes
22. shall he judge, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears; but with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the
23. earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked. And righteousness shall be the belt of his loins, and faithfulness
24. the belt of his waist. And the wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead
25. them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play
26. on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the viper's den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain;
27. for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
28. And it shall come to pass in that day, the root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the peoples; to it shall the Gentiles seek; and his rest shall be
29. glorious. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people, which shall be left,
30. from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. And he shall set up an ensign
