The Christian concept of God—God as sick-god, God as spider, God as spirit—is one of the most corrupt concepts of God that has been reached on earth; it perhaps even represents the low-water mark in the descending development of the god-type. God degenerated into the contradiction of life, instead of being its transfiguration and eternal Yes! In God, hostility is declared against life, nature, and the will to life! God is the formula for every slander of the "here and now," for every lie about the "beyond"! In God, nothingness is deified, and the will to nothingness is sanctified!
That the strong races of northern Europe have not cast off the Christian god does not truly do honor to their religious talent, not to mention their taste. They should have finished with such a sickly and decrepit offspring of décadence. But there is a curse upon them for not having finished with it: they have absorbed the sickness, the old age, the contradiction into all their instincts—they have not created a new god since! Almost two millennia and not a single new god! Instead, still existing as if by right, like an ultimatum and maximum of the god-forming power, of the creator spiritus creating spirit in man, is this pitiable god of Christian monotono-theism! This hybrid, decaying structure of nothingness, concept, and contradiction, in which all décadence-instincts, all cowardices, and all fatigues of the soul have their sanction!
