Emile, or On Education

Propose what is feasible, people never cease repeating to me. It is as if one said: propose to do what is already being done, or at least, propose some good that aligns with the existing evil. Such a project, on certain matters, is much more chimérique fanciful/imaginary than mine: for in such a mixture the good is spoiled, and the evil is not cured. I would rather follow established practice in everything than adopt one that is only half-good: there would be less contradiction in man; he cannot strive for two opposite goals at once. Fathers and mothers, what is feasible is what you are willing to do. Must I answer for your will?

In any kind of project, there are two things to consider: firstly, the absolute goodness of the project; secondly, the ease of execution.
