For a long time, upon the report made to us by our venerable brother Bernardino, Bishop of Sabina, and our beloved son Egidio, Cardinal Priest of the titular church of Saint Matthew: we have understood that, among other things which the late Francisco, Cardinal Priest of the titular church of Saint Balbina, completed with the highest praise before he departed from human life, there exists a work of the New and Old Testament: namely, the New in Greek and Latin, and the Old in Greek and Latin—as mentioned above—and also in the Hebrew and Chaldean languages, composed by the same Cardinal Francisco with great vigilance and the consensus of learned men, and printed at the expense of the same Cardinal Francisco to the number of six hundred volumes or more. But since, after this printing, the said Cardinal Francisco was suddenly taken away by death, and our consent for the publication of the said work had not been sought, the work itself has not until now been able to reach the hands of the learned or the public utility, to which it will be fruitful. Moreover, the will of the said Cardinal Francisco, noted in his testament, remains in part unexecuted; and it must be fulfilled from the price for which said volumes will be sold. Therefore, deeming it unworthy that such a work should lie hidden any longer to the detriment of public utility, and that the pious will of such an admirable man should be frustrated of its due execution any longer, and wishing to assist both damages by the aid of our provision: Motu proprio and from our certain knowledge, approving the aforesaid work, and [granting] that as such it may come into the light...
