A highly ornate, blind-tooled or gold-tooled leather book cover. The design features multiple concentric rectangular borders. The outermost borders contain repeating floral and vine motifs (arabesques). The inner rectangular panel features a central mandorla or lozenge-shaped ornament composed of intricate scrolling foliage and stylized floral patterns. The leather appears dark, possibly black or deep brown, with significant surface wear, scuffing, and a large tear at the bottom left edge revealing the underlying board or paper.
