SIR,

You have so justly acquired universal esteem that you are not surprised to receive from the most distant countries the homage that is your due. Your superior genius, having communicated itself through the medium of the printing press, seems to wish to share with the rest of us the favors with which nature has endowed you: by revealing your knowledge, it has developed our own. You have a right, sir, to the gratitude of all men. I do not have the honor of being known to you; but I would believe I was failing in what is owed to
