The second was that, even though it is said that the Zeta has only one sound in quantity, and on the other hand has the force of two consonants according to the said languages, for which it cannot directly be doubled: it nevertheless has among us a sound of two notable quantities: and with the single and simple it occupies the place of one consonant letter, and of two when it is double: since in ufízio office, Benefízio benefit, Amicízia friendship, Grázia grace, and Pronúnzia pronunciation, it covers that of a single one: that is, of the T or of the C. And in Azióne action and Distruzióne destruction, which are written for ct, in the Latin style, or for two Ts in the Tuscan style, one hears the double, no differently than in these words that are also Tuscan, Máza club and Spézo expense.
