In primis signifies "among the first" or "with the first."
In paucis means "among the few," and it is joined to the positive, not the superlative.
Insignis notable can be taken in both a good and a bad sense.
Insimulare to accuse is to ingest or impose a crime.
In singulos annos and quotannis are the same. We say, however, in singulos menses, in singulos dies, but not quot mensibus, quot diebus.
Instaurata restored are called buildings repaired and made according to ancient likeness. Restaurata is repaired for the third time.
Instar likeness is to be placed without a preposition; but it is used for exposition: as "it was done after the likeness original: "instar" of that," that is, after the manner of that. And it is preferred for calculations, measures, or manner, rather than for similarity. And similarity must be done not by instar, but by ad similitudinem. One does not say "Instar Salomonis loqueris" You speak in the likeness of Solomon, but "ad similitudinem" or "in modum" or "tanquam Salomon." Thus it should not be said "instar patris loqueris," "instar languidi sedes," but "ad similitudinem."
Instituta institutions are good customs taken by counsel and reason: as "I speak of the institutions of the good." But institutiones instructions are those by which we are instituted and taught: as the books of Quintilian on oratory and those of Lactantius on divine instruction. Institutum, however, is an attempt or a good custom.
Instruo and Instituo are so said: Instruo a soldier, an army, a fleet, a matter. Instituo, however, a student or someone's mind. And instruo is sometimes taken for instituo.
Interdico I forbid water to you is not said, but it is construed in other ways, namely: interdico tibi. "You will be forbidden, water and fire are forbidden to you." Thus the wicked are forbidden from law and honesty.
Interrogatio interrogation made through the oblique is held in contempt: as "what is this man?"
Interrogatio that wants an affirmation to be understood is to be made by non: as "am I not a friend to you?" It is understood. And also the interrogation that wants a negation to be understood is to be made by non or nunquid: as "am I not dead?" or "am I never dead?" It is understood as "not." And this non is to be written without the "n" at the end, and so on; or numquid, nunquam.
Ipse self is put for ego as a discrete certainty.
Ilimarus is a mountain of Thrace. Ilimara is the city around it.
Item, Idem, Itidem, Itemidem mean the same thing.
Iter facere to make a journey, not itinerare. It is to enter upon a journey or a way.
Labor, -as, -are, the first syllable is short, to fall suddenly: as "the feet slip."
Labor, -eris, the first syllable is long, to glide; and we perceive it easily.
