ὁ Ἀλκμάν the Alcman, τοῦ Ἀλκμᾶνος. ὁ παιάν the paean, τοῦ παιᾶνος. Nouns ending in -αν, which are acutitone and end in -α, are declined by the addition of -ος.

ὁ Ἕλλην the Greek, τοῦ Ἕλληνος. ὁ ποιμήν the shepherd, τοῦ ποιμένος. Nouns ending in -ην, which are not acutitone and do not contain the letter μ, are declined by the addition of -ος, such as ὁ σωλήν the pipe, τοῦ σωλῆνος, except for ὁ αὐχήν the neck, τοῦ αὐχένος.

Those that contain the letter μ follow the pattern of -ης, as in ποιμήν, ποιμένος, except for ὁ μήν the month, τοῦ μηνός. Those which are barytone and monogenetic having one gender have the η in the genitive, such as Ἕλλην, Ἕλληνος. Those that are neuter are declined via -ενος, such as τὸ πέριν the perin, τοῦ πέρινος.

Those which have feminine forms in -αινα are declined via -ντ, such as θεράπων attendant, θεράποντος, because it is θεράπαινα.
