...strives, it consists. And this was the reason why we have entitled this little work, On the Triple Magnet in the Nature of things; in which, indeed, besides the fact that we distinguish the magnetisms of individual things from the magnetism properly so called, we teach the attractive and repulsive force latent in individual things—not according to theory alone, but also proven by experiment itself—and that, through the suitable application of active [principles] to passive ones, it produces wondrous effects (which is the sole scope of our Magnetic Art). We also investigate the nexus of the whole universe, and thus of all corporeal things, by a new and singular method. Whosoever shall possess the keys to this, he will be able to boast that he has found open the gate to the knowledge of things, however abstruse, and thus to that true Wisdom intended by true Philosophers, which they call Magic.
