OF ATHANASIUS KIRCHER
OF THE SOCIETY OF JESUS
A PHYSICO-MEDICAL
SCRUTINY
Of the Contagious Disease which is called the PLAGUE.
Papal coat of arms of Alexander VII (Fabio Chigi), featuring the crossed keys of Saint Peter and the papal tiara above a shield with six mountains and a star. The letters Q V O are superimposed on the emblem.
The origin, causes, signs, and prognostics of the Plague, as well as the
unusual effects of a malignant Nature, which, at stated times,
by the virtue and efficacy of celestial influences, shine forth
both in the Elements and in the epidemic diseases of men
and living creatures, together with appropriate
antidotes for remedies, are brought to light
by a new doctrine.
