The excellence of such things is self-evident; this is the intended meaning. As to what constitutes the proof of such excellence, he says: "Distinguished by authentic logical arguments" original: "प्रथिततन्त्रसदुक्त्य". These are those for whom there exist true and correct logical arguments within the scriptures tantras treatises/scientific systems that are well-known and proclaimed. Thus, the existence of excellent texts like the Panchasiddhantika The Five Astronomical Treatises serves as the proof; this is the intended meaning. If one objects that these are difficult and thus impossible to understand, and asks how one can know their supreme excellence, he replies: "Having observed" original: "समवलोक्य". Having observed, that is, having thoroughly seen and understood, the works scientific treatises of Varahamihira and others, even one of little intelligence like me, becomes capable of composing a great scientific work. That those with good intelligence will become even more so is already implied. Thus, by studying such texts, that knowledge is attained. If the power of those treatises is such, it is no wonder they possess supreme excellence; this is the intended meaning. Here, by the phrase "son of Jishnu" referring to Brahmagupta, it is suggested that the tradition initiated by Brahmagupta and others is the root. This is in the Prithvi Earth meter, based on the definition: "ja-sa-ja-sa-ya-la with a pause at the eighth and eleventh" original: "जसैा जसयला वसुग्रहयतिश्च पृथ्वी गुरुः". 2.
Now, he states the purpose of his own authorship and the beginning of the undertaking:
Having mentally placed the lotus-feet of his own Guru in devotion, he who has obtained a portion of knowledge makes this, which causes the blooming of the intelligence of the wise: a pure Siddhanta Shiromani Crest-Jewel of Astronomical Treatises original: "सत्सिद्धान्तशिरोमणिं", rich in elegant diction, with clear explanations of lila play/divine manifestation, clearly for the joy of good calculators, Bhaskara the author. 3.
Vasana Bhashya Commentary on the underlying rationale — This is also easy to understand. 3.
Vasana Varttika Explanatory notes on the rationale — Beginning with the meditation on the lotus-feet of his own Guru and having received grace from that, he declares his intention to perform the work by "Having placed" original: "कृत्त्वेति". The reading "blooming of the intelligence of the wise" original: "विमतिप्रज्ञा" is also considered very appropriate because it confers great excellence. By this distinction, it is indicated that this differs from the scriptures composed by the sages. By "good logical arguments" original: "सद्युक्तिम्", it is distinguished from the scripture of Aryabhata; by "rich in elegant diction," from the scripture of Varahamihira; by "pure," from the scripture of Sripati; by "easy for the young to understand," from the scripture of Brahmagupta.
* "Good logical arguments" original: "सद्युक्तिम्" is the reading accepted by the author of the Vasana Varttika, Simha. † "Blooming of the intelligence of the wise" original: "विमतिप्रज्ञा" is also the reading accepted by the author of the Vasana Varttika.
