If "from whom" original: "ततः" is taken to mean that, then "portion of knowledge" original: "बोधलवमित्यस्य" would result in being meaningless. "Pure Siddhanta Shiromani" Crest-Jewel of Astronomical Treatises. The siddhantas astronomical treatises themselves are the good ones. Because they are the definers of the subject matter of the siddhanta, they also deserve to be called siddhanta, and thus they are the crest-jewel among them. Just as by a gem in a ring visual knowledge of an object located elsewhere is obtained, so by this book, knowledge of the hidden subjects located in the earlier siddhantas is obtained, which is why it is called a jewel. Setting a gem upon the head makes it a crest-jewel, which is appropriate. In "makes" original: "करोति", "I make" original: "करोमि" would also be appropriate. But one might ask, does he lack the capability to compose this work? To this, he says "Author" original: "कृती", meaning skillful. "Then having obtained a portion of knowledge," by which he is a knower of all scriptures. The meaning is that for one who is like this, authorship of a work is natural. By this, the suspicion that it is a figment of his own imagination is refuted. But if one objects that no one will accept your work due to jealousy and thus your effort will be in vain, he says: "For the joy of good calculators" original: "सुगणकप्रीत्या इति". The good calculators, those who know the Siddhanta texts, for their pleasure, their joy. Because of their nature of "making mountains out of atoms of others' virtues," viewing the text and realizing its special nature generates wonder, and thus they feel joy upon viewing it again; their acceptance of the text happens naturally. Because of the display of unique logic, their acceptance occurs. As for the wicked, those with hearts troubled by jealousy, because of the absence of wonder, they do not accept it. But if one asks, since good calculators have already attained knowledge through previous studies, how will this book be useful to them just by reading it? To this, he says "causes the blooming of the intelligence of the wise" original: "सुमतिप्रज्ञामुल्लासकरमिति". The meaning is that it causes the blooming of the intelligence of the wise. Thus, by viewing the book and seeing the unique logical arguments, even for them, more logic flashes forth through that means, and thus it causes the expansion of intelligence; therefore, the joy is due to wonder. The reading "distorted intelligence" original: "विमति" is erroneous. Because for those who are "distorted," the intelligence is absent and thus the entity itself does not exist. By this, the claim that the reading "distorted intelligence" original: "विमतिप्रज्ञेत्यपि" is better because it brings great excellence is refuted. If one asks how this can be, given the other authors like Aryabhata, he says: "with good meters" original: "सद्वृत्तमिति". In which there are good meters forms of poetic meter like Shardulavikridita, Indravajra, Praharshani, etc. Thus, even though the other teachers exist, because of the abundance of other meters, this book is suitable for reading; this is the meaning. If one asks how it can be "causing the blooming of the intelligence of the wise" if there is no logic in the second reading, he says: "with good logical arguments" original: "सद्धर्मिति". The meaning is that it is conjoined with correct logic.
