Now, having stated the specific reason for starting the work and another cause for its beginning with the first half of the verse, he speaks, requesting the good calculators with the second half:
"Although the composition of this work is done without expert diction,
still, this has been started to state the special features described by them.
Placed here by me in the middle, here and there, in their proper places,
therefore, this work of mine should be looked at in its entirety by the good calculators." 4.
Vasana Bhashya Commentary on the underlying rationale — Although the composition of the work was done by the original teachers with expert diction, still, this has been started by me. "This" original: "इयम्" because of the absence of pointing to the present, "this" means this kind of work, either with expert diction or without expert diction. If it is without expert diction, then why should it be started? For that purpose, he says: "to state the special features described by them." What was described by them is 'described by them'; the special features that follow from that are 'the special features described by them'. This means those which were not spoken by them. Now he speaks to the good people. The good people who are also calculators are 'good calculators'. This work of mine should be looked at by them. The word 'also' original: "अपि" is for the purpose of addition. By that, "O good calculators, you have indeed looked at the works of Brahma and others. Now, this work of mine also should be looked at upon my request." If it is to be looked at, then how is it to be done? Why? Because, "since" original: "हि", the reason is that those special features were placed by me in this book in the middle, here and there, at the proper places, as occasion arose. It means that without looking at the entire book, they cannot all be known. 4.
Vasana Varttika Explanatory notes on the rationale — But if one asks, "These special features exist in the Siddhanta Chudamani and other books, what is the point of this book's composition?" To this, he says "Done" original: "कृता इति". Incoherent prattle should not be heeded by the learned, and since he says the special features were described in their proper places, "placed by me in the middle, here and there, in their proper places," therefore, to understand the special features, my work should be looked at, even at my request. He requests the good people: "therefore this work of mine should be looked at in its entirety by the good calculators." Here, the word 'also' has a different order. It means: "My work should be looked at, even if it is to be done at my request." 4.
Marichi Commentary by Munishvara — But if one asks, "If the special features were already there, the knowledge of the previously stated objects is possible without effort. Since the other is clear, the knowledge of that excess is..."
