al-Kindi; with various alchemical authors · 1601

because they are remote: and no one living knows or has experienced their state and power, for this reason misfortune is made of nothing: And indeed the more remote they are, the more vile they are considered to be, the more rude the place they occupy; because according to the property of the place, each thing becomes better or is diminished: which can be demonstrated by various examples. Therefore, the more ♃ Jupiter/tin is remote from ♂ Mars/iron and ♀ Venus/copper, and is found closer to ☉ Sol/gold and ☿ Mercury, the greater goldness or silverness, so to speak, it contains in its body, and it is larger, stronger, more tangible, more perceptible, more acceptable, more known, and more true than is found in the remote.
23 Again, the more remote any thing is, the more vile it is considered in all the aforesaid: for the reason that what is always present is preferred to an absent thing. The closer it is, the more manifest it is; the more remote it is, the more hidden it also is: Wherefore, the alchemist must consider and note with the utmost diligence the spiritual, hidden, and remote place in which ☉ Sol and ☾ Luna are under Jupiter original: "Saturno" crossed out in source: then that he should seek what he has desired in the distance; so that he may see in the proximity in that place in which Jupiter corporally stood, the Sun and the Moon visibly for any examination of resistance without deceit.
24 To mix one with another, and then to separate the pure from the other, is nothing other than a permutation established by perfect alchemical labor. Note: Jupiter has much Gold and not a little Silver. Let Saturn and the Moon be added to it, and the Moon will be increased from the residue.
