An engraved frontispiece for a medical treatise shows a scholar, representing Aulus Cornelius Celsus, in an academic robe and cap. He holds an unfurled scroll containing the title of the work in his right hand. A dog sits by his side. In his raised left hand, he holds the beam of a balance, from which a crown hangs over an ornate oval shield. The shield displays a central cross and a motto. Two large grotesque masks flank the shield. The base features a decorative banner with publication details, all set against a cloudy background.
