PREFACE

I have taken over the task of continuing the work of my friend, the late Mr. H. Badham, with many fears that my effort might prove to be an unworthy sequel.

A complete index of plants will be found at the end of Volume VII. To identify each plant or tree every time it appears would have involved many repetitions and cross-references, but a few identifications have been inserted into the text and notes where they seemed especially needed.
