are at the end of this work of Ptolemy twenty
new maps, original: "neoticarum Tabulae" (although there are
more than twenty) —
The thirteenth (not numbered however) is a
map of the Atlantic Ocean with the western
coasts of America, but that? the name America does not
appear — The annexed folio is entitled,
Map of the Western Ocean or New Land original: "Occidentalis Oceani seu Terre Nove Tabula" —
On the map itself, a portion of South America
is represented with the lettering New Land original: "Terra Nova", and
Parrot Land original: "Terra Papagalli"; a part of North America
is also represented with the lettering Parias.
This is evidently the same map (or merely a repetition
of it) as the one described by Humboldt (Critical Examination of the History of the Geography of the New Continent, Volume IV, p. 120 original: "Exam. Critique de l'Histoire de la Géogr. du nouveau Continent") who in describing the? an edition
of a translation of 1522, says it contains "a map
