Books XXXIII, XXXIV, XXXV, and XXXVI of Pliny's Natural History contain interesting accounts of minerals, mining, and the history of art. Mr. H. Rackham left behind, at the time of his death, a translation in typescript accompanied by a few footnotes. The Latin text was prepared by Professor E. H. Warmington, who also added critical notes on the text, numerous footnotes to the translation, and marginal aids. Some portions of the translation were entirely rewritten by him. The sections concerning Greek art were reviewed and critiqued by Professor T. B. L. Webster, to whom our gratitude is duly offered.
The manuscripts cited in the critical notes on the Latin text are as follows: B = Bambergensis; d = Leid. Voss.; V = Leid. Lips.; F = Leid. (Chiffletianus); f = ed. Flor. 1469; r = ed. Rom. 1470; d = ed. Parm. 1481; h = ed. Ven. 1469; z = ed. Tol. 1566; T = . . .
