f. 145—163 Centiloquium One Hundred Sayings of Ptolemy, f. 164r is blank, f. 164v astrological table. — I collated this in Rome in 1903.
C — codex Paris. lat. 7214, parchment, 14th century, see Catalogus codd. mss. Bibliothecae Regiae Catalog of Manuscripts of the Royal Library IV p. 327. It contains the Planisphaerium f. 211—217. — I collated the beginning; the remaining part was collated by A. A. Bjoernbo, a former student.
D — codex Paris. lat. 7399, parchment, 14th century, see Catalogus codd. mss. Bibl. Reg. IV p. 351. It contains the Planisphaerium f. 1—12r. — Inspected by Bjoernbo.
E — codex Bodleianus Auct. F. 5, 28, parchment, 13th century, f. 129—136r. Collated by Bjoernbo.
F — codex Dresdensis Db 86, parchment, 14th century, see Curtze, Zeitschr. f. Mathem. u. Phys. XXVIII, hist. Abth. p. 1 sqq. It contains the Planisphaerium f. 214—219r. I inspected this in 1904.
I have provided all readings of codices AB in the apparatus, except that I have neglected certain minor orthographic details, such as the permutation of the letters c and t, e and ae, u and v, n and m, the non-doubling of consonants, Arabic numerals instead of Roman,*), and similar things. From codices CE, I have brought forward all readings that were of any significance, omitting only manifest errors. I have noted all readings of codices DF in the preface of the interpreter published below in chapter II; in the work itself, I have omitted everything from F, and only the most notable things from D, such that nothing should be concluded from silence regarding it. In the ancient editions,**) I found almost nothing useful for emendation. Below in chapter II, there will be a discussion concerning the interpreter, and some things will be added regarding the notes of the Arabic interpreter which are common to all codices but which I have omitted.
*) AC always have Roman numerals; B mostly has Arabic.
**) Editio princeps first printed edition with Aratus and others, Basel, by Jo. Walder, 1536; then with the Planisphaerium of Jordanus and the commentary of F. Commandinus, Venice 1558. Ptolemy’s Planisphaerium also exists in codex Paris. lat. 7377 B, 15th century (separated by a bookbinder). But the planisphere contained in codex Paris. lat. 7413, 14th century, is not Ptolemy’s but Jordanus’s, as it is in codex Paris. lat. 8680 fol. 57v—61r.
