Fulgur lightning flash is the fire that flashes from the fulmen thunderbolt: whence fulgetrae lightning flashes and fulgor brightness/glitter are also named; as Virgil in book V:
Fulguritum struck by lightning [means] touched or burned by a flash.
IURGIUM quarrel/dispute and LIS lawsuit/legal dispute have this distinction. Iurgium is a lighter matter; since among benevolent people or relatives, a discussion or contention is called iurgium; among enemies, a dissension is called lis. M. Tullius Cicero in On the Republic, book IV: "I admire not only the distinction of things, but also the elegance of the words. 'If they quarrel original: "iurgant",' he says: the contention of benevolent people is called iurgium, not the lis lawsuit of enemies." — And in the following: "The law, therefore, thinks that neighbors should quarrel original: "iurgare" with each other, not litigate original: "litigare"."

MERX merchandise, MERCATURA trade/business, and MERCATUS market/marketplace differ in this. Merx is the object itself; mercatura is the act itself or the profit from merchandise; mercatus is the place in which trade is conducted. M.
