Augustine; Goldbacher, Alois · 1866

I have marked with an asterisk those biblical passages that do not agree with the edition of the Holy Scriptures known as the Vulgata Vulgate. In the critical apparatus, a. c. signifies "before correction," p. c. "after correction," a. r. "before erasure," and p. r. "after erasure."
Augustus Engelbrecht ordered that the entire mass of readings I had noted be reduced through helpful deletions, as it was too prolix. To his prudent judgment, it is due that this volume did not grow into an even larger scope. This same learned man consulted for the convenience of the readers by adding paragraph numbers in the margin, increased and corrected my collection of passages taken from the Holy Scriptures, and helped me energetically and strenuously in correcting the proof sheets. Indeed, where he judged difficult passages differently than I did, he did not hide his opinion, such is his sincerity of mind, and not infrequently he persuaded me that he judged more correctly. I will publicly thank other men who have deserved well of this edition in due time.
