VII 21 § 2 Philippum Philip: 'Philippos' in interpolated manuscripts with Jerome. But the former must be retained. Orosius mentions the father alone as a Christian. Cf. 20 § 2 and 28 § 1.

VII 22 § 5 sanguis ad Deum clamans blood crying out to God: according to Genesis 4:10.

VII 25 § 3 accendens kindling: This is what is transmitted and is undoubtedly Orosian. I have therefore now rejected the vulgate reading 'accendit' he kindled, with corrected punctuation.

VII 25 § 9 exceptus received: I have restored the reading of the better manuscripts with changed punctuation in § 9 at the end; the readings 'est exceptus' he was received and 'exceptus est' he was received are owed to an interpolator or glossator.

VII 29 § 1 deceptus est he was deceived: I have already restored this transmitted spelling in the major edition, p. XXXVIII. Cf. Corpus Inscr. Lat. XII no. 18 'immatura aetate decepto' deceived by immature age, V p. 1211, IX no. 5412.

VII 32 § 1 In the list of Excerpts, for 'tricesimus' thirtieth write: 'tricesimus octauus' thirty-eighth.

VII 32 § 12 In the list of Excerpts, at verses 5—9 add: 'Isid. Orig. 9, 4, 28'.

VII 35 § 12 line 33, correct to 'cultu' worship/culture.

VII 40 § 1 nihil factum nothing done: See I 6 § 4.

VII 40 § 8 Palentinis: I have now preferred the single l over the double, as it is slightly more recommended by the testimony of the manuscripts in this place. But I retained the letter e as the manuscripts agree in this place; likewise the Anonymous of Ravenna, p. 313, 4, 'Palentia'. In Orosius V 23 § 6, where he used the Livian epitome, we read 'Palantiam'.
