Ahas the diligence of antiquity omitted anything, which remains intact until this present age? Therefore, I ask you not to judge the reliability of this edition based on the present time: since, having followed the traces of ancient moneta currency/tradition, we have preferred to select all opinions rather than to innovate. And so, if any of these things have come into your mind otherwise than I desire, I would like you to grant pardon for my inexperience. For the constancy of truth lies with those whom we have followed. Just as those who emulate the forms of bodies, having put aside what remains, first depict the shape of the head, and do not direct lines to other limbs before they have made a beginning from that very (if I may say so) citadel of figures, so too shall we take our beginning from the head of the world, that is, from the city of Roma Rome, although the most learned authors have left nothing regarding it that can be awakened for a new Bproclamation, and it is almost superfluous to reread the path run through by so many annals. Yet, lest it be completely ignored, we shall pursue its origin with as much faith as we can.
