Natural History

The front cover of a historical binding. The spine and a portion of the left side are covered in plain, aged vellum or parchment of a yellowish-tan hue. The remainder of the cover is decorated with a block-printed or stenciled paper featuring a repeating geometric and floral pattern. The pattern consists of a blue diamond lattice; at each intersection is a red circular dot surrounded by blue radiating lines, resembling a sun or flower. Within each diamond cell is a blue stylized floral or leaf motif. The decorative paper is worn at the edges, particularly at the top right corner where the underlying board is slightly visible.
