Nevertheless, there are not lacking places where either D against Qς, or the ς recension against QD, alone exhibits the truth. D very rarely (II 286, 6 περισσῶς : περιεστῶς or -ώς Qς, III 42, 5 διδάσκαλον : διδασκαλικόν Qς), more often ς, whose good readings—wherever witnesses of the first classes were present—we established with the best right above (vol. I p. XXXVIIss XXIXs vol. II p. IVs) to have originated entirely from conjecture. I have no doubt that the same applies to this particular place in the fourth and fifth books (cf. p. 50, 33s 78, 26s 103, 11).
