12th ed. (X and 861 pp.) Lex.-8. Durably bound in half-morocco M 8.—
The Greek dictionary by Benseler-Kaegi, in its twelfth edition, may once again lay claim to being the most comprehensive dictionary best suited to the needs of schools. — The typeface is much larger than that of other school dictionaries; the scientifically verified readings are complete, and a selection of Greek lyric poets is considered in the newer edition. — Likewise, the book is distinguished by a clear, systematic treatment of proper names and by an exemplary refinement of formal material and orthography. — In etymology, Benseler provides only that which is scientifically established, simultaneously for the capacity of the student, and distinguishes itself through sparse adjectives scarcely supported by old tradition, as offered by other dictionaries.

The Pädagogische Monatshefte Pedagogical Monthly Journals 1899, 1, judge: "If one wishes to answer the question, 'Which Latin school dictionary should we recommend to our students?' as follows: 'Recommendation is deserved only by a school dictionary that clears away all superfluous ballast, limits itself to the necessary, and offers this in a clear arrangement and refined presentation, which provides the student with powerful help for reading and promotes his intellectual growth.'" — Since the new edition of the Heinichen lexicon prepared by Wagener has appeared, we have no hesitation in recommending this book. — The publishing house has also equipped it externally in an excellent manner, so that it can form an ornament of the starting library of every secondary student."
