This is the Proclus who, after Porphyry, was the second to bark against us. Against him, John, surnamed the Grammarian, wrote an Apology, arguing that although he was great in Greek affairs, he was nevertheless a fool and unlearned in this matter. Suidas is the author of this account.
This is the man whose commentaries on Plato we have today. He was also the tutor of M. Antoninus likely Marcus Aurelius, whom he advanced even to the consulship, as Spartianus is the author.
¶ Suidas also lists two others. One from Sicily, of the Malleotian homeland, who wrote on the Sophisms of Diogenes:
