original: "ΣΤΟΙΧΕΙΑ" (Stoicheia). The Greek title of this work means "Elements" or "First Principles." It refers to the basic building blocks of a logical system, much like the letters of the alphabet are the elements of language. In this context, it describes the fundamental theorems of geometry.
