V and the Vatican also differ in certain orthographic matters, for instance V seems to prefer γίνεσθαι, the Vatican γίγνεσθαι; see p. 6, 11; 16, 10; 18, 1, 9; 22, 15, 20 etc.; they agree at p. 2, 6 on γίνεται. At p. 70, 90, 96, 98 the Vatican writes both παραγίγνεται and παραγίνεται. V sometimes omits the ephelcystic nu before vowels, as at p. 16, 4; 56, 3, 13, [while] the Vatican adds it even before consonants; see p. 6, 17, 27; 68, 2. The Vatican, contrary to V, retains final vowels at p. 6, 4; 8, 10, 22; 36, 15. Nor is there a lack of difference in the letters pertaining to the figures, even if their order in the figures themselves is the same; see p. 14, 1; 16, 1, 3, 14, 30; 26, 13; 30, 3, 15, 30; 32, 1, 5, 9, 12, 24; 34, 2; 40, 24. It is manifest that a sufficiently large part of these differences in phrasing is to be attributed to the scribe. However, upon comparing the two recensions, Theon and his recension of the Elements, Data, and Optics come to our mind, and one might suspect that the same author is responsible for recension b, which is indeed agreed to be a part of the Little Astronomy. It stands in the way that Pappus seems to have used it (see below). Finally, concerning the author of recension b, since testimonies are not found, nothing can be affirmed for certain, yet there is no doubt that it is owed to the Alexandrian school.
The manuscripts of recension b that I know, besides the Vatican, are these:
