It is the custom among more recent physicians to use the term arteriacs original: arteriacas. These are medicines intended for the "rough artery," the ancient term for the trachea or windpipe.. They do not always clarify whether they are referring to antidotes or using the word in some other sense. Some call these same substances electuaries original: eclecta. This term refers to medicines meant to be licked or dissolved slowly in the mouth, similar to a lozenge. without adding the word "medicines." Some authors have recorded no distinction for them at all. Others have only rarely added a definition. Some prescribe them for a broken voice. Others use the term more generally for a damaged voice.
