medical art were found to have been cared for with equal skill. Besides this preparation used for correcting the text of Galen, it happened that I obtained two copies of the works of Galen, printed by the sons of Andreas de Torrefanis of Asola and the heirs of the late Aldus Manutius. The Aldine edition of Galen, published in Venice in 1525, was the first complete printing of his works in the original Greek. It remains a foundational text for medical history. One of these is kept in the public library at Wolfenbüttel original Latin: "bibliotheca Guelferbytana". To this copy, Joseph Scaliger added many notes. Joseph Scaliger (1540 to 1609) was a famous French religious scholar and historian known for his incredible skill in correcting ancient texts. These notes contain variant readings from manuscripts he compared with the Aldine edition. They also contain conjectures by which he tried to restore the integrity of passages corrupted by scribes.

The other copy of the Aldine Galen edition exists in the Royal Library in Dresden. Regarding this copy, the most learned and friendly Ebert, who serves as the librarian there, wrote about it in his work of immense and truly Herculean labor and vast literary knowledge. a) Universal Bibliographical Lexicon. It is noted there that in all volumes, except the third, corrections or variant readings were added by the hand of an unknown learned man living at the beginning of the 16th century.
