and if he had also looked out for the convenience of readers by following the example of the Giunta editions The Giunta family of Venice produced several influential editions of Galen during the 16th century, known for their organization and indexing. in particular and dividing the text of Galen into chapters, his edition seemed worthy of being the one I should use as my model for printing.

But I saw that Chartier’s René Chartier, 1572 to 1654. management of the task of editing Galen’s works was not always conducted in a way that could be considered free from criticism. He left many things that clearly conflicted with the rules of the Greek language and required correction, even when manuscript codices offered no help. Furthermore, the Latin version often corresponds poorly to the Greek words, even though he claims it was diligently corrected.

For this reason, the most excellent Gottfried Heinrich Schaefer Gottfried Heinrich Schaefer (1764 to 1840) was a celebrated German classical scholar and philologist., whose friendship I have cherished for many years, took upon himself the tedious labor of correcting the errors of the typesetters at my request. He was of the opinion that it would be better for the readers if the Greek text of Galen were now freed from the faults with which it is often found defiled by scribes who did not sufficiently understand the nature of Greek speech; or if the difficulty of the prose were eased by changing the punctuation,
