The pulses become very large, frequent, and swift. The heat is intense, and immediately after the peak of the fever, a certain moisture is carried up from the depths of the body. This moisture is warm but pleasant to the touch. These fevers are the least sharp and biting of all types. In such patients, the face usually becomes red and somewhat swollen, and the urine appears whitish. A common feature of all such "one-day" original: "ephemeris" (ἐφημέροις); fevers that typically resolve within twenty four hours. fevers is the regularity of the pulse. Very few of them show even a single irregular beat, and even when they do, it is not very clear or obvious. These are the identifying signs of these fevers.
All such patients should be treated with the bath. For those suffering from fever due to the thickening of the skin original: "pyknōsei" (πυκνώσει); the closing or densifying of the pores. or due to swollen glands original: "boubōsin" (βουβῶσιν); buboes or inflammatory swellings in the groin or armpit., you will do no harm even if you tell them to linger in the air of the bathhouse. However, all other types of patients should be removed from the air as quickly as possible. On the other hand, you should permit them to stay in the water for a very long time if they wish. Furthermore, they should be rubbed more extensively with plenty of warm oil and with soft hands.
