...unless their head aches or their temples throb. This rule must clearly be observed in all other cases as well. One should also give wine to those who have become angry, or sad, or those burdened by worry. However, for those in a state of rage, do not allow them to use wine until they have completely moved past the passion. Before that point, it is not safe.
One should always try to introduce the opposite of whatever is causing the distress. For exhaustion, provide rest. For wakefulness, provide sleep. For anger, sadness, and rage, provide the delight found in conversation, activities, spectacles, and storytelling. In the same way, a person who has been strained by worrying should allow their reasoning mind to rest completely.
If a person has contracted a fever because of a bubo original: "boubōna" (βουβῶνα); an inflammatory swelling of a lymph gland, often in the groin or armpit., the physician must heal the swelling itself. Even before treating the swelling, one must heal the wound from which the bubo originated. Let these be considered sufficient signs and remedies for one-day fevers original: "pyretōn ephēmerōn" (πυρετῶν ἐφημέρων); literally "daily fevers" that last only a short duration and are usually triggered by external conditions like heat or fatigue..
Of the other types of fevers, some are ignited by inflammations original: "phlegmonais" (φλεγμοναῖς); a technical term for localized heat, redness, and swelling. and others by the humors. Those that arise from inflammations are like symptoms of the inflamed parts. The disease usually receives its name from the organ that is suffering. Examples include phrenitis original: "phrenitis" (φρενῖτις); a condition involving delirium and fever, traditionally associated with inflammation of the brain or its membranes., or peripneumonia original: "peripneumonia" (περιπνευμονία); inflammation of the lungs., or pleurisy...
