Then one must pay even more attention to the other diagnostic signs, as the condition may not be only a daily or quartan fever, but also a semitertian fever original: "hēmitritaiou" (Greek) / "semitertiana" (Latin); a complex and dangerous fever combining a continuous and a recurring cycle. or some other kind of continuous fever. The other signs are the quality and quantity of the heat, the movement of the arteries the pulse, the specific sensation of the shivering itself, the season, the region, the state of the environment, the nature of the patient, their age, and the events that preceded or followed the onset. For the heat must be great and sharp; the pulses must be large, hot, strong, fast, and frequent, and without any irregularity except for that which is typical of fevers. The shivering is like the skin being pricked by something sharp rather than by something cold; this differs from those with quartan and daily fevers, who feel a cold shivering. Exercise should have preceded more than idleness, heat more than cooling, and a sparse diet more than a heavy one. Wakefulness also, and sorrows, and fatigues, and persistent cares contribute to this great...
